My husband and I started out in the basement of a really nice house at my parents. We moved into a new apartment with a friend and that was exciting. Having a place of our own (with the exception of the drama that a roommate brings, especially when he moves his girl and kid into the place) was so freaking cool and and new and made us really feel like grown ups. We were young, in love, and broke. But, we were happy.
We moved to a few different other places before we got pregnant and gave birth and then moved again with my parents to Minnesota. We lived in pretty much mansion in Eden Prairie. It was awesome. We had our own section of a half a million dollar house. All good things come to an end and we moved back to Des Moines. Again lived in an apartment. But we eventually got our house. We were over the moon happy and had many good years there. But...that was a short (5 1/2 years) dream and the housing market crashed. We lost our home. Back to downsizing to an apartment. And really...that is fine with me. I prefer apartment living because I don't have to mow a lawn in the dead heat of the summer and I don't have to shovel snow in the dead cold of the winter. People always talk about how wonderful home ownership is but really for me, blah. I'd rather have a management company take care of all of my needs for free than have to worry about paying out my butt for things like repairs and all that mowing and shoveling.
If I can make a place my own, I'm pretty happy wherever I am. Recently I made a huge job change (which is a whole other blog of itself) and this is allowing us to MOVE ON UP!! I am so incredibly excited to move to a place that will have an elevator, an indoor pool, tanning beds, a work out room, and a huge club house to have parties if we choose.
Where we live now, we have just grown out of. It's ghetto, it's old, outdated, and the neighborhood has gone to crap. FYI...we lived in the same place 13 years ago when my son was born. The cool thing about this place was that it was one of thee first apartment complexes that had a washer/dryer in the unit instead of sharing. It used to be super nice and it's gone to hell. And now, almost every place that is nice offers a washer/dryer in the unit.
I really really want to start buying stuff but we just have no more room so I've had to just start documenting what I want and keeping a list of where it is and how much it costs. I have so many things planned for our new place and I'm so incredibly excited to decorate our new place and then invite our closest friends over!!
I want to share with you all the idea's I have...
I have always wanted a 50's style Diner Kitchen and I have a new dining set all picked out...
I have always wanted a black and white checkered floor but obviously with an apartment we can't do that so I plan on doing a rug instead...
I plan on decorating our kitchen with all kinds of sweet stuff...
Gotta love the 50's Diner stuff!
My Sugar Skull Apron! Cannot wait to throw a dinner party in this!
Ice Cube Trays for my Boys!
Salt and Pepper Shakers....Um Hello!! YES!
Sugar Skull place mats...why not?
In apartments, you can't always paint so you have to think of other cool things you can do to decorate and this light switch plate is PERFECTO for our new Diner Kitchen!
I'm always trying to think of cool things that fit my husband. He loves coffee and he loves beer so these two are a perfect match.
Who hates their fridge? I DO!! It always gets so unorganized and crazy and I saw this and thought, YES!! That is how to keep it clean.
This will be for a wall that is right where you walk in to our kitchen so this will also keep me super organized.
Just one of the new signs that will be in our dining room...EEEEE!!! I love it!!!
What couple that is in love can do with out these bad boy/girl salt and pepper shakers? NO ONE!
And now begins my Sugar Skull obsession....
Tea Pot
Cookie cutters
Sugar bowl
Coffee Mug
I then move on to the bathrooms and laundry room...
Seriously? YES!
Bathroom storage items
Our main bathroom...Don't be scared ;)
Gotta have inspiration while you're doing your favorite (NOT) chore.
Little decorations that I have planned make a house a home...
Yes please!!!
Super cool picture frame
Because my son LOVES crows!
Who doesn't want a gigantic Johnny Cash in their living room? The reason I love this one so much is the meaning behind this song. My husband and I have went though some crazy stuff together and we stuck it out. Even though we separated for a good long time...we really did walk the line.
Another adorable switch plate
Couch pillows
I have a huge problem with keeping organized, keeping clutter to minimum and keeping my life together so another thing to keep me organized!
And last but certainly not least we plan to expand our family with one of these adorable guys...
Persians are my favorite! I love fat, fluffy, fat faced kittens!
I have so many other things on my list but I will not show you all of them until we actually move and get into our new place. I cannot wait!!! I hope that I have inspired you to create a space that is your own and that reflects your personality and style!
Happy moving!!!
Great post and dreams!!!! I cannot wait either!!!!! Ummmmm, I didn't see any room in that fridge for beer :-)
